WHERE TO WATCH
Top 4 places to watch World Triathlon Series Edmonton
4. Canada Corner Cheer Party - join the Windsor Park Community League as they host the Canada Corner cheer section at the top of Emily Murphy hill. Grab a cheer kit from the welcome tent and line the bike course to cheer for the Canadians and the other super fast athletes too! Virgin Radio will be on hand to entertain the crowd. Festivities include a Triathlon 101 tent to help you get up to speed on what this crazy sport is all about, kids activities and of course some of Edmonton's Food Trucks. It's free to attend but they would love to know you're coming.
3. For those active visitors who want to see all the action - head to Hawrelak Park lake to watch the frenzy of the mass start as swimmers jocky for position for the 750 m loop. Once swimmers are in the water, make your way to the transition area (grandstands or beer gardens to watch athletes run down the chute to grab their bikes for the 20 km ride). The short 3.5 km loop will prove to be fast and exciting. If an athlete gets lapped, they are out of the race - no one wants that! If you are swift, head to the top of Emily Murphy Park hill which is the most technical part of the course. The bike portion only lasts about 30 min. On the fourth lap, run back into the park to watch athletes as they complete a 5 km sprint. This is where the runners make their move. You'll have to be quick as the fastest runners on the WTS circuit run 5 km in about 15 minutes! Catch the winner crossing the finish line from the grandstands where you can join the crowds cheering loudly.
2. Beer Garden - what better way to watch a race than sitting in the sun with a beverage watching other people exercise. Enjoy the family-friendly beer garden area with grandstands located on the corner of the finish chute. Watch for live entertainment between the women and men's event on Saturday afternoon.
1. Free Admission to Grandstands - comfort is key! Watch the live feed of the race on the big screen in front of the grandstands. Get up close and personal with the athletes each time they head into transition or make a bike or run lap. You'll be able to see racers as they attempt breakaways or hang in with the pack.
