2021 World Triathlon Age Group Championships Decision
Thank you very much for your patience regarding the 2021 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships Edmonton. World Triathlon Series Edmonton, in partnership with World Triathlon and Triathlon Canada, was hoping for a different outcome, however due to COVID-19 and the related international travel restrictions, we regret to inform you that the Age-Group Championship races will not be held this August 17-22 as part of the 2021 World Triathlon Championship Finals Edmonton.
With the health and safety of our athletes and community as top priority, government officials and public health authorities are unable to grant travel exemptions to international age-group athletes, including vaccinated travellers at this time. And while we hoped the COVID-19 situation regarding international travel would have improved over the past few months, unfortunately this has not been the case.
We understand the hard-work and dedication it takes to qualify and prepare for the World Championships. We’re heartbroken we won’t be able to welcome you and the 3,000+ international age-group athletes to our city this summer. World Triathlon Series Edmonton prides ourselves on a one-of-a-kind athlete experience, and we were excited to deliver on our plans of a “Best Ever” Age-Group Championships.
While the World Triathlon Age-Group Championships will not be in Edmonton, our team is working with World Triathlon to find an alternate location for these races later in the year. Stay tuned for more information on this.
As we prepare for an event that will look and feel a lot different this year, we will continue to keep you updated on the elite men’s and women’s and U23 World Championships, with the hope you will cheer these athletes on from afar.
We thank you again for your support and patience and wish we had better news to share for our international age-group athletes.
